I have a 2006 Heritage Classic. I just changed the fluid in the tranny. When I put into neutral, with the cluth pulled all the way in, I get some grinding from the gears, as if the cluth is not fully disengaged. I don't recall if it did that before. Should I adjust the clutch at the primary, or the cluth cable? Or both?
First thing is to check the fluid level in the primary. Overservicing will cause problems with finding neutral. If you don't recall, it probably wasn't. Always go to the last thing you did, when checking for a problem. Adjusting the clutch is not an either/or task, it's a both. The how to is all over this forum, do a search here or check you tube. Also get ready for the buy a manual blitz if you don't have one.
I bought the bike used, so I don't know what type fluid was in the gear box. It was not red, so most likely it was not Redline. I dropped in 85-140 Drag Specialities Transmisstion Fluid. I will now be changing the Primary fluid, with Drag Specialties Primary Fluid, and also will be adjusting the clutch.
If new to U, then I'd suggest U to adjust the clutch pac, and cable per Instructions.
Also I didn't care for the 85-140 GL.. its just too thick/heavy GL for Our IND weather..
made her really stiff on shifting for the first 10 minutes or so unless it was above 90 which we don't get that many days that hot in the summer.
