Just picked up a 06 Ultra Classic with 52,000 miles on it. I am having a hard time down shifting. I check all the linkage and it moves smooth. Shifts just fine going through the gears accelerating. The previous owner used Belray in the trans. I am considering changing all the oils over to Redline. What are your thoughts on the hard downshifting issue and Redline oils?
hard downshifting can be clutch or primary chain tension.
check them both on your new bike.
as for fluids- the only one which can be tricky is primary.
the clutch disks absorb fluid- if a replacement fluid is not compatible with the fluid in the disks, action can be wacky.
for the tranny- mechanical problems are not solved by magic fluids- they may mask a problem
the service manual for many years warned against using air impact tools on the clutch hub nut, tranny mainshaft - use can damage the shifting mechanism inside the tranny
