Default How do I tell ....

What Screamin' Eagle mod my bike has? (2003 FXSTI) ... I admit - I am totally ignorant when it comes to this stuff so be kind.

My bike has the Screamin' Eagle Air cleaner, that I know. It has Vance & Hines short shots. But how do I know just exactly what upgrade the bike has - a Stage 1? Stage 2? When I bought the bike in October, I noted the bike had "Screamin Eagle" but it was never really discussed with the salesman, and I never asked. So now I really have no clue as to what the bike has. I DO know it sure does have pep/power!

Making any sense? Any way for me to figure it out?

Thanks, and again, be kind, pretty please? Lol.

If they did not spell it out exactly when buying it, it is most likely a screaming eagle air cleaner, V&H pipes and a basic tune. With any further screamin eagle mods, they would have made it a large selling point I think!

You can got to the harley service dept and have them run the vin. If the work was done there then it will be in the computer. Sounds like a stage one. If it runs good just have fun and no worries

Normally I would agree. However in this case, three things a) they were at the point in the month they were desparate for sales, b) I fell in love with the bike on site, test road it and was sold and that plus c) the salesman is fairly new, LOL !

So I don't think it ended up being a selling point at all, ha ha.

I might do that. For some reason I do not think they did the service, I don't think the bike was even bought there, but I could be wrong. Normally I really could care less about this kind of thing and you are right - it runs great, so no worries. Guess I'm just plain ol' curious at this point, lol.

I have to imagine that there was some kind of tuning done, because it does have a different air cleaner, different pipes, and it does run really nice. More peppy/power than I would have imagined from an 88 ci engine. In fact, it actually seems .... "more" ... than my 103 ci Heritage that I had previously! (which had a Power Commander that we bought pre-mapped, and installed ourselves, because I had Rush Slip-Ons and it was running crappy. Still ran crappy)

To answer your question, it all depends on how bad you want to know. Your dealer or someone with some experience can look under your seat and see if it has a tuner hooked up to the bikes ecu. You can have a compression test done and that might tell you if any more extensive head or piston work has been done. You could pay to have a dyno run done and depending on how high the numbers are, the mechanic could make some educated guesses.
