Default Chrome Forks?

I want to chrome out the front forks on the New Heritage I am putting together. Who has done this? Is all that you need is the lower fork sliders? Are the Harley parts the best, or are there others that are a better option?

I just did it on mine, found a kit on ebay for 07 FLSTC that is a harley kit with old part number and now considered obsolete. Even though it's considered obsolete it is exactly the same kit as the new ones at half the price.

Pretty simple swap too, hardest part was getting the caps back on the tubes. Best way I found was to use a wrench to hold the caps in place and push really hard then turn the tubes.

Depending on how many miles your bike has depends if you need new bushings or not, mine only has 2000 or so miles so I just reused my bushings.

Pretty straight forward, if you go the ebay route make sure the kit includes the upper fork surround and cowbells with it, the cowbells are pricey from the dealer and I didn't notice the kit I bought didn't come with them. I had already torn the front end apart before I realized I didn't have the bells and didn't have a choice but to source from the dealer.

A parts list for what you will need is - lowers, top fork sorround (3 parts the head light cover and 2 for behind the forks), cowbells, seals and fork oil. I switched to 15W oil since I'm a big guy and don't like the softness of the front end.

Thanks for the tip. I had not thought of EBAY. So it is just assimple as replacing the lowers then. Any special tools that are required?

You can get the caps back on a lot easier with a palm ratchet, and you'll need something to drive the seals, either PVC or a task specific tool.

Get the cow bells too. The stock are stainless and you'll see the difference

I had mine done last year at the local dealer using HD Chrome Lowers, got $100 off due to the amount of work I was having done. I also added 2 Over Chrome Cow Bells to complete the look.

Yes, don't make the same mistake I did the 1st time around when I had the Nacelle added.
