Default Oxygen 02 sensor ?

Looking at getting a different exhaust system and seeing alot that talk about the 02 oxygen sensor. Is this something that is only for certain states or do you need it for the exhaust set up to be right? Does it matter if bike is carb or EFI. I have a fuel injected 2001 Heritage Classic. Thanks for your help

No worry for you, didn't have o2 sensor's back then.. I believe the 02 sensors started in 2007 or 2008.. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

This is correct -- no oxygen sensors for you! If you decided to make mods to your engine and went with a Thundermax or similar high tech ECU, you would need an exhaust system with oxygen sensor bungs, which could be welded in if you didn't have them.

Your 2001 fuel injected Heritage is void of o2 sensors and refereed to as an Open Loop EFI System. Most exhaust systems produced for your year bike will not have o2 bungs (Ports) on the pipes. Having said this, you want to be a thrifty shopper and double check that your exhaust selection does or does not have bungs welded onto them. If they do, the manufacturer should be able to provide plugs for the bungs.

Here is another o2 sensor related question...i had to buy new ones for the crossbones. When you install new o2 sensors, do the sensors have to be "fresh air calibrated"before actually going into the exhaust?

I don't believe so. I think it's the true widebands that are calibrated. The stock nb sensors aren't that accurate to start with. Even less accurate in some years due to the angle and depth they're set at. I've been reading up on the Bosch site about proper installation of the sensors and never saw any mention of them requiring fresh air calibration before putting them in. Should be able to drop them in and go.

Bought some generic drag pipes for my 2013 slim and just noticed that threaded bung for sensors are.closer to head than my stock pipes. Is location of sensor critical to operation of engine management?¿

2009's were the last o2 sensor close to the head. 2010 was a new location and different O2 sensor.. Will it work ?? would have to change some wireing maybe ????
