Default Rear belt question

Just put new rubber on my 97 fat-boy, and when re-assembling I notice tha the rear wheel adjusters are nearly out all the way. The sevice manual tells me that the drive belt stretches very little after the first 500 miles. Does anyone out there know what the life expectancy for one of these things is?? There are nearly 10,000 miles on the bike, but all the visuals on the belt are fine....no chips, cracks, dry rot etc etc. Any advice wil be greatly appreciated.

It seems to me the service manual calls for replacement at one of the service intervals. I am at work, so don't have mine handy; but can check when I get home, if no one else chimes in before that.

According to my owners manual all it says about the drive belt and sprokets is to inspect and adjust at all service intervals out to 50,000 miles. But nowhere does it say that it needs to be changed as part of anyroutine measure. The service manual doesn't say anything more than the owners manual.
If it looks OK, is not frayed or nicked on the edges I guess its good to go.
I leave the timeing belt in my truck for over 100,000 miles and it runs in a much more hostile environment. So why not leave it.

Sounds reasonable to me. [sm=smiley20.gif]

Thanks guys.... I guess its not a problem to have the axle out that far.....belt LOOKS great, I just had a little concern with how far back the axle was.
