injected tank
Yes, I removed the guts when I swapped tanks. I had the manual for pics and advise, but it still a few unanswered questions as I went along. I pretty much dis-assembled the whole thing while it was pulled up from the tank. When I re-installed it, I had it assembled except for the spring that holds the pump arm. Once it was in the tank (SENDING UNIT BETWEEN THE GAUGE TUBE AND TANK CENTER) I installed the spring & hose. You will need to replace the fuel hose clamp, as the old one is the crimp-on type. Go to advance auto or pep-boys and pick up some 1/4 & 5/16 Fuel injection hose clamps, they wont cut into the hoses like worm clamps.
Once you get everything together and get the whole thing together and ready to screw down you will notice it doesn't want to sit flush on the tank. That is because the pump & strainer are on that spring load, hitting the tank bottom. You will have to start a couple of screws, work around the plate installing screws and slowly pull it down evenly.
Don't be worried the first time you turn the key and the pump makes a wierd noise, it will go away once the air is out of it.
All in all, it's kind of a pain, cause your hands don't want to fit, and your afraid of scratching the tank. Plus you worry if your floats going to work again.
I did everything on a bench with the tank removed.
Give yourself plenty of time and you'll be fine. Good luck!
