May as well pick up a service manual and take a look so you know what the mechanic is telling you. Prepared and all that, you know......

i believe what we are looking at is what the manual calls a pushrod end. sits on the cable side. connects to the clutch side via a pushrod. sits behind the cable ramps & *****. part number 37069-90 steve

One of my rules of buying anything with a motor used is Asking for and seeing the Maintenance records.
IMO anyone who doesn't kept maintenance records is not to be trusted as to what and when work was done.

Another thing I'd do is a complete Maintenance service on it ASAP .
I'd Change all the oils and lube everything that needs it and check out all nuts and bolts.

Lots of people will flat lie to a person buying their used bikes when it come to maintenance of the bike there selling.

Tranny oil that looks like sludge is not good and Its been in there a long time.

Please change out the Engine and Pri oil before U start it again if U haven't already.

Grease U neck bearings and oil Ur cables.

I'd also have someone look at the Tennsioners.. If the bike was not properly serviced (I say this because of how bad the Tranny oil was) then at 20k the tennsioners could be close to needing replaced If the motor oil was neglected also.
Running with Tennsioners that are worn too much can cause a massive engine failure.

If U have a Good Indy shop near, talk to other riders to see how their work is. They will usually be $15 - $20 less per Hr on labor. but they better be good.

If U go to a HD Dealer.. Also do some talking to find out who is their best Wrench and then tell the service dept that U only want that wrench to work on U bike .

When I do take my bike (seldom anymore, last time was 3yrs ago) to our dealer for any work.. I only let 1 wrench work on her. It might take a week or so longer to get her in, but its worth it knowing that the 1 person is doing the work as I trust him 100%.

Also if U have spoke wheels,, make sure U don't have any loose spokes and also check Ur tires.

With only 20k the front could still be Orginal, if its 10yrs old U need to replace it.
With 20k the rear has probably replaced, but again if its over 5ys old, I'd replace it also..

Good luck with Ur issue and Post back to let us know how U come out with the repairs.

I took the part to my dealer and it was a bearing cage that sits between two washers on the throwout bearing on the tranny side, it was also missing a c clip that held all the parts on, he explained to me how to do it and gave a diagram and I ended up fixing it in 5 min. I changed the transmission fluid, primary and engine oil and took it for a ride today and everything was good.
