Default PVC upper fork covers

I've seen the dyna guys do this but no softails so far... Painting and cutting PVC to size and sliding the forks down through the trees, insert the PVC between the trees, and slide the forks back up. My question is, I have an FXST, 41mm forks. What size pipe do I buy? Converted, 41mm is 1.61 inches roughly. I had some 1 1/2" PVC at the house and its larger than the upper forks. It would not fit snug... It would rattle around. Doesn't make sense according to the measurement conversion though. If anyone has done this can you let me know what size pipe you bought? thanks

I'm not a math guy but wouldn't it being cut to fit between the trees keep
it from moving at all?

lol, good point, but i wasn't going to cut them to be tight up against the trees. i don't want the pipe marring up the trees at all. After thinking about it some more I might have to end up lining the inside of the pipe with something to get it snug

Someone posted a picture were he wrapped leather around the tubes between the triple trees.

Pick up a cheap caliper at Home Depot and measure the tubes. Cut something the same length and go check what inside dia. PVC is offered.

Or pick up a couple o-rings at the auto parts store to take up the gap......

You could use pipe insulation inside the PVC and o-rings at each end.

Looking at this chart

http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/pv...ons-d_795.html

The 1.5" sched 40 PVC should be pretty much dead on. That's assuming the tubes are a true 41mm or 1.61".

Well, that doesn't work. Just measured my 41mm tubes and they are 1.62" od. Had a scrap of 1.5" schedule 40 and measured that at 1.605" id. Hmmmm.......

Thanks J,
I found another site showing inside diameter of pipe. Looks like 1-1/2" SDR 17 PVC pipe will be as close as it comes at 1.641" ID. Now where the hell do I find that? lol, never heard of it. I'll start looking around
