My nephew has an 05 Train. He wants to convert it to a six speed. Anyone tried this? Can it be done? new tranny? or donor bike tranny? or tranny build? or forget about it? He loves his Train, as do I. He just wants the sixth gear.

Anyone tried this? I'm sure it has been done but I haven't.
Can it be done? Absolutely
New tranny? Not necessarily but if that is what he chooses. The Baker DD6 is a very good transmission.
why not go this route? much cheaper than the screamin eagle set. I had a revtech trans in a custom chopper a few years ago and that thing shifted super nice compared to the stock harley trans....cant say much for the rev tech motors, but that trans was awesome
I have an 06 Deluxe which came with a 5 speed. It now has the SE 6 speed in it and the difference is like night and day. Agreed, best money I spent right next to the air SS's.

Why does he want it? Just for giggles? For a different final drive ratio? A six-speed won't really be an advantage on an engine with such a wide power band. Don't really need much more than a four-speed. In fact, I'll sometimes kick my 6-speed twice and skip gears.
I really don't think its worth the $$$ unless he's got a bad tranny now.
Think it'd be OK if the bike needs a new tranny, but IMHO the diff is only 300-400 rpm's at Interstate speeds is not worth the cost of changing out to a 6 speed if U have a good one already in the bike.
Also on our 07 Heritage, 6th gear is really is too tall of gears for even a stg 1 motor and didn't really become usable until I put in the cams.
By usable I mean the motor felt like it was always laboring when in 6th and I always lost 4-5 mpg at 60 and above (down to 38 mpg from average of 42 when I used 5th at 55-60mph).. After the cams I can now easily run at any speed from 60 mph or above all day and get 45-49 mph on the road.

I can't say the same. My "former" Rev-Tech 6 Speed locked up on me while cruising on a 2 lane highway at 75mph. I only had 15k miles on it. Within a split second there were two quick jolts in the drive-train, then the back wheel just locked up to a full stop. I couldn't even move my bike off the road from blocking traffic. That was a nightmare and I'm lucky I didn't get killed. That was the last Rev-Tech product that I'll ever have on any of my bikes again.
Not sure why everyone says 6th gear is unusable below 70mph. I find mine very usuable at 65mph, even 60 if the road is flat and im not accelerating. Perhaps Im smaller than the average Harley rider lol. Even 2 up I use 6th gear at 65mph and I ruitinely get 50mpg. But then my gf is smaller than the typical backseater as well

Rev-Tech Motors and Trannys have not gotten very good Reviews in here and they don't seem to Hold up.. Other than being one of the cheapest I don't know why anyone would go with one of their products..
I am sure some in here have had good luck with their products, but there's been a lot who's had nothing but troubles with them.
