I bought an analog oil gauge to replace a rusty one that was on the bike when I bought it, but the newer dipstick is far longer. Now I can't tell if the one that on the bike originally was too short or I got the wrong dipstick. The part number was 62896-00b. Can anyone tell me what the stock dipstick length is for a 2000 Fatboy?
Thank you!
IF I remember correctly, the replacements tell you that you need to read the levels when the bike is warm and on the side stand. The originals wanted the bike to stand straight up. That is the reason for the differing length.
When I swapped mine out, I rode the bike home, checked the oil and made sure it was at the right level, then swapped out the dipstick and noted where it was on the stick. From then on, I just made sure it was near that mark.
