If he needs your permission to buy another bike, I'm thinking he probably shouldn't have either.

For me, when I first saw the Blackline, it was all about the old style rigid frame look, with shocks to smooth out the rough riding. Nothing else. I looked at all of the other styles and kept going back to it.

Seriously, dude. He is your dad. He doesn't need you to tell him yes or no. He can buy any bike he pleases with or without your approval. The only thing you can do is to sugest that he take one for a ride before he buys. If my boy tried telling me "yes or no", he may be 22 years old, but I'd still turn him over my knee.

To be fair, maybe his dad asked for his input on if would be a good idea for a second bike.

The posts about the purchaser test riding the bike first is the best advice anyway.

I have a lo, but have ridden RGs before. The RG is a great bike. I just like the attitude and versatility of the lo. You can truly make it unique to your style. That pretty much goes for any softail.

Like others have alluded to; Softails have advantages and disadvantages compared to other models (touring, etc.). The converse is true as well.

Your dad first needs to determine if Softails even appeal to him. If so, which model(s) does he like (Heritage, Fatboy, Deluxe, etc.). Then he needs to test ride them. Which is most comfortable? Which ride does he like? Does he like it enough to own it?

Once he decides on a particular bike, then you need to buy it for him.

I just don't know why more riders aren't like me. I buy one (or two, or three) on a whim for a really high price, keep it for a short period of time, and then sell it for a really low price to some lucky guy that just got himself a fantastic deal.

I think if the thought is already in your father's mind to buy a softail, then it's inevitable. (just a matter of time)
