It looks like the bike is set up with cornering clearance in mind, and he wants to improve the handling (which to most people means turning), so lowering would probably be going in the wrong direction.

I did the 422s for half a season and then took them off and did the SS. Save yourself some coin in the long run and do the SS. It's worth riding the hooker for another season while you save for the SS.
