ENGINE TROUBLES - ANY THOUGHTS?
My bike was repaired within a week with the second dealership. The problem was that there was not enough clearance in the casings for the cams. They had to re-mill.
I'm sure the original dealership is not going to admit to an installation error. Needless to say, I'll be following up.
I was originally under the impression that all dealerships work the same--NOT TRUE! Thanks for the input. I'm going to keep you informed and believe that in this way others can be forewarned or prepared if they encounter the same.
Gonna be a beautiful weekend here for riding the Central California Coast!!
But, I thought when you bought SE kits (big inch kits) there was now warrantee?? That's probably on the parts though. Sounds like it was a labor, or lack there of issue....
If you had problems from the beginning you should be on the phone to HD in Wisconsin the phone number is on the HD web site call and complain to them get them involved and they will contact the dealer this will start to put pressure on them. Any paper work you have will help. What i found out is that in CT we have a lemon law and when a problem is bad enough my dealer will not give paper work when you pick the bike up because three times for the same thing and we are eligible to file lemon law. This probably has nothing to do with your situation. But on the other had its a reminder to every one that when they work on your bike tell them you want paper work this way you have a record in your case this would now be in your favor when calling Harley.
Good point to always get a copy of repair orders. They are your property. You paid to have services done and even warranty items are your public record. The dealer cannot deny this. Take note of arrival date and time, time repairs were made.Alot of dealers do notkeep correct dates/times etc.Dealers records are not regularly shared with the MOCO. They can access our system, but don't very often. The only shared records are with the Digital Tech. At least twice per week. The Lemon Law issue is null and void. Performance upgrades were insalled. Most lemon laws state, 3 attempts of the samerepair within a 30 day time limit.
Don't bark at the MOCO too much. State that your problems are with the original installing dealer. MOCO is out of the blame because of the 95" kit w/cams. Trust me though, I now they are interested in your bike being right.
What the original dealer did not do, is when installing higher lift cams you must machine the pinion bearing boss area and the bottom of tappet bore area. If not the cam can contact case, You know what happened from there.
If original dealer won't budge, take your paperwork and compare with Service Dept records. Tell the "President" it was obvious that they were at fault and see if he will give an in store credit of what you paid to repairing dealer. At least this way you re-coup some funds. Dealers are quicker to do this than give out cash. Buy the good stuffand go to the other dealer from now on.
I'll keep you posted.
Next year for sure!!
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
Needless to say, I'm one of those horror stories that will most likely end up in court. Never thought it would happen to me doing business with a Harley Davidson dealership, especially with this particular dealer. Just a word of "caution," research, research, on the credibility of a particular dealership before buying or having your bike serviced.
Even if the business has been in business for 11 years, having 3 court cases filed against them should have told me something up front.
