Default do strut covers support anything?

does anyone know if the strut covers actually support any weight? if i take them off (to trim the fender beyond where the strut covers end) will it affect holding a 130lbs passenger?

Doubt it. Some of the newer models don't have the covers for a stripped down look. I would think they didn't beef-up the frame on those models.

I think that are mainly cosmetic since the inner horns are the main support but they do not go all the way. Mine have an inner u-shaped strip under the fender. Not sure if that is just a part of the saddle bag mounts. It also had a bar that tied them together that went under edge of fender in back. Bags said maximum weight of 7 pounds so I took off that pipe bar part. When you think 130 lbs hanging out on the end of the fender slaming down at 60-70 miles an hour I would not take them off. They are pretty thick material and I have seen them bent and bowed out on a wrecked bike that tells me they were supporting fender and horn since they bent with it. Just my opinion.

If you look at the pictures below (poor quality phone camera), the passenger area would be just above the frame so I doubt there would be any issue with passenger weight.
The covers extend further out the fender and has metal brackets underneath possibly only supporting the fender length and lights.
