So, I am finishing up a tour in Afghanistan, I have been accumulating parts and toys for my scooter while being over here. I gave the executive order to the olde lady to get the sled ready for my return. One of the big purchases was Samson fishtail exhaust 23.5in long. Harley called the wife and said that my brackets for her passenger footboard are a NO-GO, I needed heritage style to fit with my new pipes and i would also have to lose my nostalgic tool box and linkage covers in order for the pipes to fit. So in the end Im out the cost of the brackets I bought ($118/never used) and the cost of the tools box ($150) and the linkage cover ($30). ARGGGG. I also have to go back into the wallet for the new mounting brackets ($160). So in the end if you own a FLSTN and want to throw on some samson fishtails in conjuction with some passenger floorboards do not go by the HD website. Ask the fine Gents on here what PN's to go with.

I call bullshit. What is the part number for your footboard brackets? I'll check with my dealer and see what the hang-up (if any) is. Unless your dealer is extremely familiar with samson install on a deluxe, I can't imagine how they'd know what frickin' brackets work or not. Sounds like a typical upsell scam (not that any dealers would do that sort of thing). All you might need is a couple of washers or a spacer. My fishtails sit so low, a bit lower than the bottom pipe in my sig picture, that it makes no sense.
I have a set of 39"'s here on my living room floor. I hope I'm golden because I have the extended mounts because I have rear running boards. Does anyone know any different? I also don't know why you would have to lose your tear drop tool box unless you have the one that goes on the left side rather than the right side. I am fixing to order the right side myself as I have seen others running with them. Again, does anyone know any different? I agree that at times Stealerships either talk out of the side of their mouths or out their ***'s. Good luck and get home safe, thats what really matters.
I ordered PN 50400-07A (Kit, support, passenger footboard FLSTN). Apparently this is wrong for a true dual setup. I did some research on the forum to ensure i would not have a issue and i saw nothing that led me to believe i would. I guess not. It sucks being over here and not being able to talk to the dealership myself. My tool box is a left side mount so I guess that is a scrub because of the way the left pipe comes down.
and here is the bracket mounted without the pipe...
you can see that the hole for the foot peg is about an inch and a half to the rear of the swingarm bolt. If you look at the first picture, it is fully exposed and there should be enough clearance. Again, i'll pull the part at my dealer and see. Might be a day or so as it is f$%^&$ snowing again.
I have Samson 28.5" TD fishtails on my 2012 Heritage with passenger footboards and a right side tool box. The passenger footboards should install without a problem. The pipes sit well below them. The tool box mount does not fit exactly on the Heritage because HD changed the spacing of the fender rail bolts and not the mounting bracket. But, it is held on by 2 of 3 bolts and is solid. The only problem I encountered with the left side tool box is the space between the left pipe (behind the primary) and the saddlebag. The pipe takes up 2" of space so the toolbox is too long to fit. Fortunately, I located a metalsmith in Austin (Texas) who can customize the tool box for me. Just haven't made the time to have it done yet.
Wardog,
God bless you for your service, brother. You have a great lady taking care of your sled while your gone. I work at Ft. Hood. We're all waiting for President Obama to tell Hamid Karzai... AMF YOYO. Come back safe. Come back soon.
