Not a terrible bike but it really could have been executed a little better. The black/chrome contrast does need some work. It kind of looks like they tossed parts on it and assumes it looked good. The all black pipes are nice. The turns need to match and the trees and front end need to be black or chrome not both. Def not liking the oil tank at all. Also the mix of gloss and flat black just makes it look like a cheap mod.

What's the issue with heat and the oil return?

The more I look at it, the more I think it's one of the best looking stock bikes I've ever seen. The only thing I would change aesthetically are the bars to something with more rise

If it had a springer front end...I might be interested.

The evo softails returned the oil this same way (to the bottom of the bag). When the Twin Cam softail was introduced in 2000, one of the upgrades introduced was to return the oil to the top of the bag to help cool the oil. I am certainly no mechanical genius, but I was under the impression that heat increases with displacement. I would want every opportunity for my oil to cool off it can have with a displacement over 100ci. Especially with the excessively lean a/f ratios I hear these machines run with at factory settings.

But, then, I am not an H-D engineer, and they must have run real-world tests to prove that it is sound, and avoid litigious issues....

I have read some of your posts from other threads; you offer sage advice and wise counsel, and maybe this one criticism of mine (about the Breakout) is unfounded. Especially when you consider that very few H-D owners leave their bikes in stock form. Pipes, A/C, tuners, etc., so it probably is fine, from an engineering standpoint. Even if it is, I think the bag is ugly, too.

The oil is not returned to the bottom of the bag...it has tubes inside the tank to rout the oil...they go back and forth on this every few years...the very first softails had oil lines just like the twinkies... which is how the knuckleheads were run.

The bike has serious potential and you will see some wicked customs made from it

To me it's a Rocker with a different fender/ seat, I like it.

Would have been exceptional if HD put a springer front on it.

The CVO was too much chrome for my liking.

Interesting if the sales will surpass the Rocker sales as the Stock Rocker seat killed the sales for those who couldn't look past it.

Depending on how much of the Breakout would be replaced, I'd probably start with a used Rocker to save a little money, since it's basically the same platform.

Still kickin' myself for not buying back my last Rocker that the insurance company totaled. There was almost nothing wrong with it that couldn't have been fixed with mods that I was interested in doing anyway.
