Default What to expect?

I've decided to put in a S&S 97" BB kit to go along with the 543 Reaper cams I bought this fall, (one of my bros owns a indy shop and he isn't charging me any labor on the kit install since we will already be right there...) But anyway I was wondering what I could expect out of it, right now it is a 2005 Deuce 88TC with pipes and a stage 1 air kit. Will it run with the 96s and 103s out there when we're done with the motor work or am I still gonna have the bike that everyone says "dude I think the deuce is one of the slowest and heaviest softails they made." I guess I am asking the age old and childish question will it be as good or better than my friends stuff!!
I may have other questions as we go I hope its alright this is my first post on a forum....

You will see an improvement!
the cams will wake it up.

In my opinion, if your using flat top pistons you need to deck the heads to raise the compression to really utilize the cams.
Of course putting a bigger piston in the bore will slightly raise your compression.
Im sure you will ride with them just fine.
With a good tune exhaust and intake you should be making high 80's
Good luck

I've had a stock 96 with stg 1 pipes and breather. I currently ride a stg II 103 w 255 cams. The 96 you would definitely have no problems keeping up with and I am pretty sure you wouldn't have any problems keeping up with the 103. It run pretty good, but certainly isn't that special. If you raise the compression, pay attention as you may want compression releases. Cheap medicine while you have it apart. My 103 has a hot start issue and really need CRs to remedy it.

Camming an 88" with a 2n1 is an nice improvement over your stage 1 88". A cammed 97" will have no problems runnin fast, with the right cam. You should also consider a 2n1 as it adds a nice bump also. Is your bike fi or carb? If efi, a good tune is necessary.

If you haven't ordered your S&S kit yet, give a shout to Scott at Hillside Cycles. He'll fix you up with a cylinder/piston kit to match your cams. It won't be a one size fits all unit like S&S. He won't try to sell you anything you don't want.

Yes. Munnsville. They are a sponsor in here. I have Andrews 37 cams and they made a kit that they said would bring out the best in them. Just put it together a couple weeks ago and so far I can say they delivered. considering all the snow we've had out here, I've only been able to put about a 100 miles on it, it really rips now!! Get their pistons from Wiseco and machine them to proper dome height. Scott is a great guy to talk to.

Hey QC what did you do for break-in? What type of oil did you use, I run syn in mine but alot of people I've talked to say to break-in with conventional oil and then start using your syn again after your first 1000. What are your thoughts or what did you use?

Qc will post soon. But your right on the oil.
Some people say just do a few heat cycles and ride it normal. Some say to stay under 3500 for 500 miles. I don't think ones more wrong than the other.
An important factor for break in is proper tuning. If you have efi it would require a Dyno tuner. Some companies will send a base tune with the kit.

Soon? I'm in bed at 9, lol!
Dan is correct. Conventional oil for break-in. I was told to heat cycle in 30 second increments building up to 3 minutes, then a 10 mile ride, then ride normal without blasting or lugging it for 1000 miles. 3 of us did builds from 3 different suppliers at the same time and all received the same basic info.
