Oh no.. Another ShotGun Shock friggin Question... ! :)
Ok folks,
Only because I plan to ride long trips this year and want to really slam the bike hard and getting older and my back suffers I fell into the trap.
Buying a set from a member here, from his bike, I have the following questions to ask.
1 - How do you make sure the rear fender does not rub with rear tire (or the wires rubbing ) ? I understand other Air shock models have this problem ?
2 - Does certain Tires have higher probability of hitting the fender ? ( I am thinking of the Gangster rear).
3 - The set is used so I am assuming it won't come with the shrink tubing, I will have to make it up, any recommendations on the Switches ? I did read somewhere here that a member had problems in heavy rain with the switches and he could not resolve them.
I appreciate your patience with another friggin Shotgun thread LOL
I dont think you could ever rub the fender with a stock profile tire due to the bump stop on the swing arm, its engineered this way from the factory.
A taller tire might rub the wire harness channel
You can buy shrink tube on the internet in any size or just call JD...you might want to call him anyway to ask about warranty transfer on used kits.
I believe the kit was used when the seller bought it, he installed it then won the JD competition .. so he sold the old kit that was on his bike and is installing the new one.
I thought warrantes are for the life of the warranty not for how many owners, but I could be wrong, from what I hear, JD has been mostly a stand up gentleman.
As said, leave the bumps in and it won't rub. If you take them out for a full layout slam, then you just have to use your butt. If you feel it hit, pick it up a bit. Adjust on the fly is why that system really rocks. As for the shrink tube and switches, Radio Shack has all you need. I would shrink the switches too but that is me. Lots of options including adding the switches to the inside of your console. In my humble opinion, you are worrying about nothing.

Just asking questions about what I was reading.
But I am glad to read your post, thank you, yes you are right , RadioShack is awesome, it is called 'the source' here btw .
Some have either used a cut down bumper stop or one from another model that is thinner.
With the bump stop, it's just like if you hit a mean pot hole and bottomed out your stock shocks. The bump stop keeps it from damaging the fender/wiring.

I should have also added, any good marine supply like westmarine.com will not only have shrink tubing but they have waterproof shrink tubing. It has a glue inside the tube that when you heat the tube to shrink it, the glue seals everything internally. I use that on the switches, it makes sure the connections on the back stay solid.
Welcome to the club or proud Shotgun shock owners and riders. You will NOT be sorry once it's installed. The best way to get any questions answered about the Shotgun would be to call THE MAN himself, JD. He will answer any question you have and have anything else you may need to do the install. He's great to talk to and he will get you up and running, right, as quickly as possible.

Every component of shotgunshock kit has a lifetime warranty, including shock , compressor and wiring harness. Also if you want, send me used shotgunshock kit you purchased and we will test all components and ship back with everything needed for install, no charge.
