Default HID Install

i just thought i would do a quick write-up on the hid install i just did on my 2003 night train. i didn't really care for riding a ton at night since my oem 5 3/4" headlight didn't put out a lot of light (plus living in north centeral indiana there are a lot of deer and other animals). so i looked all over and debated when i wanted to do. i looked at the led kit but it was a little out of my price range (i am cheap, married and have 2 kids under 4 years old). then i read up on hid kits, asked questions and bought one off of ebay for $38 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/170492679790 this is the kit i bought. i had it at my door a week after i ordered it. and with over 230 sold and 99% posative feedback i was hoping i couldn't go wrong) after i got the kit i tried to fit it all in my oem 5 3/4 headlight bucket and there was no chance at all. so i debated what i wanted to do. so i ordered an extension (http://www.ebay.com/itm/380403299418) since i didn't want to cut the high voltage wires. but i did cut the rest of the wires and soldered on 3.5 feet of extra wire and heat shrinked the connections.
i ended up mouning to ballest (it isn't that big, but it is on a bike that doesn't have any extra room) between the battery and oil tank under the seat (i 2 sided taped it to the battery). you can't really see it in the pictures since i tucked it down pretty far. took off the gas tank and headlight. ran all of the wires down the back bone of the bike under the gas tank. drilled out the hole where the wires went into the headlight bucket to around a 7/8" and put a groumet on the opening to protect the wires. then i soldered all the connectors back on once i had them ran through into the bucket. i decieded to mount a toggle switch rather than a timed relay, i also bought a rubber boot for the switch to make it waterproof and put rubber o-rings inside and outside of the bucket before i tightened down the switch to try to help with water too. i mounted it on the bucket (oppsite of where the wires ran into the bucket and tried to even it out). cut the ground wire on the hid kit and connected it to the toggle switch so when i start the bike i have the light off and turn them on once i get the bike started (sorry i don't have any pictures of inside the bucket wiring, i thought about doing this write-up after i had it all back together).once i had everything wired i turned the ign on and the light tured right on once i hit thetoggle switch. now was the most pain in the butt part, putting the headlight back in the bucket with all the connectors, wiring, switch, etc. it took me probably 30 min to get it back in there. it would have been a lot easier if i had a bullet bucket or something longer or bigger. it is just super tight. now i have to wait for the snow to melt and take it out and see what i think.
if you have any questions about when i did let me know and i will try to answer them as best as i can.

40's and 50's are in the 10 day forcast so I hope I will be able to get out soon. I am debating what mods are next. I have a small swingarm bag. I am thinking about getting a bigger one.

Why is the switch or timed relay needed? I have been thinking about a kit. I talked to one vendor and was told it was plug and play just like the ebay link you posted.
