So this is my first post on the softail forums and I thought I'd get some of your opinions. I currently ride a Dyna Lowrider and i'm not planning on selling it. But I am in the market to buy a Softail Custom.
I'm not looking to spend much more than 10k, and of course, less is better.
Let me say that I'm aware of the Screaming Eagle Softail Springers (110ci), but i don't want to spend 20k on a bike.
I prefer a springer but I don't believe they made an FXSTC springer with a 96ci, and I'm debating whether I should go with an 88ci springer, or a 2007 FXSTC (96ci) with only 2k miles that I'm looking at, and then put a springer front end on it at some point.
This bike is not going to a bar hopper. It'll get plenty of highway miles and
I understand the benefits of a 96ci, 6 speed and fuel injection for that type of riding, but I'd like to hear some arguments for the carbureted springer with a 5 speed, and a 88ci, because it'll easier and less expensive.
Also, any years I should stay away from or have concern about?
An FXSTC? I don't think they make them in a 96ci. At least I have not seen them on any of the sites I've been looking at. I hope I'm wrong but it doesn't appear they made them. BTW, thanks for responding. Was starting to wonder about you softail guys. LOL Actually I'm still wondering a little bit. haha

as far as I know the only 07 Springer you can get is the CVO....
I love the look of the springer but the ride quality is not great
I think you're right about the CVO. As far as the ride quality, I hear different things. Some good, some not so good. A buddy of mine has an '05 springer. He said he'll let take it for a ride to see for myself.
I ride an 07 fxstc w a 96ci.
It had 2k miles when I bought it.
Love it!! Moved from an 03 WG, don't regret
A min of it.
I think the FXSTC is nicest looking bike HD has made in a long time. Looks even better with a springer front end. If I go this way I'll look at Paughco springer front ends.
There are two 2007's in my area I'm looking at. One red and one blue. One has 2k, the other 17k. Both look to be in great shape. The milage difference doesn't other me. I'll just go with the best deal if I go with the '07.
I don't mind wrenching, and I haven't ruled out an EVO yet. There's a 1999 I have on my list to see, and there was a 1997 I was ready to pounce on because of the condition of it and the price, but it was sold an hour before I called. Haven't seen many others that caught my eye though, and because of that it's more likely I'll go with a 88 or a 96.
