I don't have my service manual yet. Does anybody know how much fork oil goes in each fork on a Softail Slim? Stock, dry fork lowers/sliders. A page scan would be great but not necessary.Thanks....Joe
The manual gives you two ways, either by liquid measure (oz's or cc's), or by measuring the level from the top of the tube.
I just used a long bladed thin screwdriver.
I made a mark on the screwdriver blade 4.4" down from the handle, then just rested the handle on the tube, using it like a dipstick.
Make note that these measurements are with the springs removed and the tube fully compressed...
When I did mine I bought two pints of the H-D Type E fork oil, and just to give you an idea of how much you're going to use, I wound up with about an inch left in each jug after filling (dry).
That's perfect. Thank you. My tubes are still on the bike ,so I'll be measuring ounces. I picked up 2 pints already. Not sure if I can measure 13.4 ounces though!

I just went to the cheapie local dollar store and bought a plastic measuring cup for kitchen use, graduated in oz's.
/didn't want to incur the OL's wrath by using one from the kitchen... again.
I keep a measuring cup in the garage anyway. All back together now. Must be close on the measurements. I have just about an inch in the bottom of my oil cans/bottles(whatever) too....Thanks again.
