The stock air breather on my 2012 fatboy is 11 inches across from front to back. This is so large it hides the engine and push rod covers. DK Customs has a 7" diameter chrome cover that looks great, but could it work with the stock breather system? Anyone tried this?
(I have not yet switched to the high flow breather due to cost of fuel management. Will get there eventually. My addiction has me blowing money on Kuryakyn chrome accents)
Maybe not. While popular cotton-gauze filters can flow a lot better when new or freshly cleaned, they also allow a lot more dirt to pass through, and clog up faster than paper filters.
I'll go to a lot of trouble to make something else work, before I'll use one of those.
I've used them for years too, but only where I didn't have space for a "real" air filter. Aside from formal tests, one thing I (and many others) have noticed is that the intake tract gets a lot dirtier, a lot faster with this type of filter, compared to OEM paper media type filters.

Go with a washable oil less synthetic meda filter. A lot better than K&N.
