How hard is it to get these dashes to fit. Like the idea of pulling up some where and having stuff not many other people have
The dash was a perfect fit on my tank. Just have to buy the shorter bolt and nut for one of the mounts. The part that is a little difficult is deciding what to do with the ignition and speedo. I had to fabricate a mount for the ignition switch and speedo.
Klockwerks makes a low profile dash that comes with a bracket to put the ignition in place of the horn. Maybe they sell the bracket without their dash. I was going to put my ignition there, but had already cleaned up that side of the engine. I ended up putting it under the oil tank on the right side.
Thanks everyone. I'm stoked on how well it turned out.
The MPH is very erratic and the odometer not working properly. Only reason I'm keeping it on my bike is for the warning lights. Neutral, oil, high beam, and turn signals are working properly. The speedo came with its own speed sensor. The only thing left for me to try is to wire the display to the factory speed sensor on the transmission.
I wired my new mini speedo to the factory sensor. Seems to work just fine. BUT, be sure to also leave the sensor signal wire going to the ECM. You'll need to splice the signal wire (white w/green IIRC) to bot the new speedo and the ECM. If the ECM does not see the signal from the speed sensor it will cause a sporadic stalling condition on heavy decel, and your turn sigs won't self cancel (see here for the play by play of that issue https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softa...e-insight.html) Took me awhile to track down the problem, and it was right in front of me. Also, do not splice the 5v sensor power from the new speedo to the 5v sensor power from the ECM. That will cause a crazy low idle (sounds pretty badass) but it'll also run like *****. Splicing the sensor grounds together is ok, but be sure to use those grounds as hey are dedicated 5v sensor grounds. And there's a 3 pin deutsch for the stock speed sensor in front of the splashguard to make all this splicing a little easier.
Thanks for the info JR. Tring to get to the connector for the speed sensor really sucks, so I'm going to splice into the ECM connector instead. Of course now I'm busy at work so now I need to find some free time.
Update on the speedo. I was able to get the odometer working properly, but the speedo only goes up to 21 mph. I don't need a speedo anyway since it is easy enough to judge my speed. At least I have an odometer and warning lights.
Is your front fender a chopped stocker? Also, what are you doing for rear shocks; I really like the way that Heartland(?) fender sits on the stock tire.
