A note for anyone who finds themselves low or out of oil, can't get to what you usually use and or needs to get their bike to the shop that any oil will work and get you to help. Of course I'm not talking gear lube or anything like that but even a 5/30 will get you to help without hurting your bike. Also, it is best to service your bike, changing fluids before you put it up for the winter rather then in the spring time. While riding, used oil collects moisture and that moisture can have an adverse affect on your bike over time. Fresh clean oil before storage has no moisture in it and is best for your motor's and tranny's. I also never start my bike all winter long to let it run, warm up or to push fresh oil through it. The reason is the same as I just mentioned. You start it to let it warm up and that will pull moisture in through your exhaust when cooling down. That is also another reason why I use synthetic oil over Dino oil. Syn oil will hang on the metal, the walls of the cylinder's and the rest of the motor much better and much longer than it's Dino counterpart's.

Oh my gosh the entire thing blew when I was going down the street!!

LOL only kidding. Everything went fine and a good lesson learned.

First ride of the season felt good. As many of you know I have been contemplating selling my bike to raise money for an in-law suite to take care of my mom and dad, but everyone's advice has been to hang onto it, even if it only helps me escape the stress for a short while.

Just gotta find some set screws for my left grip, they all worked themselves out and the grip is coming off. Stopped at the hardware store bought a bunch of different sizes and of course none of them fit.

Hey Studiopeg, good to hear. I had a situation something like you only it was to get custody of my kids. I needed a ton of money for lawyers so I had to let my last bike go to raise the money. To be honest, it wasn't a hard decision for me to make because I only the these 2 options. It was sell the bike so I could fight to get them, even knowing I was fighting an uphill battle because it's very hard to get custody of kids and taking them from their Mother no matter whats going on. I could have sold my bike and not gotten custody too. Or, I could have kept my bike and left my kids behind to live with their drug addicted, drunken Mother who was never home and leaving them to fend for themselves. It was a no brainer and if I had to do it over again, no problem, I would do it again in a Heartbeat. Oh, by the way it took me a year and a half and about 60k in legal fee's but I won custody and I raised them alone. I will say a prayer for you and all those involved in your decision that whatever route you go it's the right decision for all those involved too.

It does me good to hear of dads so dedicated to their kids and doing the right thing. I too am willing to give the bike up. It might happen at the end of this season, I'm in talks with a breast cancer charity. We are thinking of raffling it, which would raise a good amount for both them and me. We'll see.........

I won't be able to participate in the 2013 Mothers for Daughters Charity ride due to health issues, but will ask some friends to buy some raffle tickets for me if your bike is involved.

It may happen next year Sammi, and thanks

I'm not going to Mothers for Daughters this year either, I only have enough money for one rally this year and I've never been to Americade, so that's the one I am going to, in June.

fill the oil tank to the minimum oil level then warm the bike up. feel the rear cylinder head. if it hot its warm ed up enough to ride.shut the bike off & check the oil level again. if it comes up, but not to the full mark, fill it up 3.4 to the full mark & ride the bike. stop every 4 miles or so & check the oil level again. when you get home let the engine idle 2 min. to scavenge the oil in the eng back to the oil tank.
