Default 90/90 vs MH90 front? Duece tire Help

So New tires are going on the deuce.

After doing some research and reading probably 100 threads on the forum, in the softy and dyna threads...

Read a few guys running a 90/90-21 front vs. the mh90(80/90)-21

advantage of the 90/90? will it fit on my stock front wheel? or am i better running the 80/90....

Have it narrowed down to 2 options, Finally

Avon Venom front in either a 90/90 or 80/90 front
Avon Storm 2 Ultra in a 170/60-17 on the rear want something wider but dont wanna risk rubbing.

Or

Metzler 880s with the same cobination on sizes... can someone throw some light my way.

Leaning towards the Avons. Unless someone says no with what i wanna run, i havnt heard much about the Storm 2, but i havnt heard anything bad either

They say if u get a german metzler your good, if u get a brazil made one they r bad, how can you tell?

I'm doing the same thing you're thinking of. Stock front on my '07 Softail Custom is a 80/90 21 (MH90-21). I went a size up with Pirelli Night Dragons 90/90 21. I read lots of good things about the Night Dragons so I went with them instead of Metzlers (which I have on my other bike). They just came in today so I can't say anything about how they are yet.

I was a little concerned if the 90/90 would fit but I'm almost certain it will. If not, oh well, I'll order another. I went a size up because wanted to experiment and see if it makes any difference. At best it'll ride a little better than the 80/90....more contact patch, trail better etc. At worse, it'll rub against my front fender. LOL

As far as the Metzler questions you have. It'll say on the sidewall where they're made. the ones I have on my Dyna are made in Brazil. I got about 4k on them, I think. No problems other than my front does't hold air like it should. Not sure if it has anything to do with the fact that they're made in Brazil, but they do lose about 2 psi in a 24 hour period. My rear tire doesn't. Other then that I'm happy with the Metzlers.

Are you running stock Dunlops now? Remember, tires may slightly vary in size (width/height) depending on the manufacturer. The Pirelli 90/90 I ordered is as tall as my stock 80/90 dunlop. The Pirelli 80/90 would have been shorter. You can always email the manufacturer and get the specs.

Can't help you with the Avons. I never ran them.

Good luck.

BTW. My Pirelli's, although based in Italy, are made in Germany.

That's good to know. I was a little concerned the fender would get in the way. Does your FXST have the same front fender as the FXSTC?
