Default Hardware Refinishing

I'm interested in refinishing the motor case hardware on my Deluxe. It is currently zinc plated, but I'd like to have it finished in some sort of a black finish so that it will blend in with the engine motor halves. Currently no one has the fasteners for sale in a black finish.. Has anyone had any experience in this area?..I thought about powder coating, but I think that would be too thick, and might not fit back thru the holes in the engine cases. Has anyone had Parkerizing done, or some other process I'm not aware of?..Any help is appreciated..Blooz

Have you considered black bolt covers? I don't know what year Deluxe you have but the link is for 2008-later Softails. They have other kits for different model year bikes also. Just surf their site.

Then, there's black chrome hardware. I don't know if the kit in the link is for your year/model, but again, it gives you an idea.

You can also rattle can the hardware yourself. Powdercoaters should know where to avoid painting hardware.

As posted above, a lot of fastener sites sell black oxide bolts and washers. Those blend in pretty well. If you want to paint them in-place, Testors flat black model paint in the little jars matches black wrinkle really well, but I don't know how long it holds up. That along with a pack of brushes is pretty cheap from a hobby store.

Is there a place that sells Black Oxide Motor Mounts upper and lower for a 2012 deluxe?..If there is, my PC can't find it...lol. Plus, on things like the trap door, I have no idea what length the bolts are till I remove em. Thats why I was going to buy the stock harley hardware and send em out to be re-finished, and then install the black ones 1 at a time. Also..Black Oxide will rust!

Doc..I have considered toppers, as a last resort. I don't want chrome fasteners against the black engine cases. Painting is another last resort though, but ya need a really steady hand to paint em in place.

You might want to check with this company. I used their yellow cad kit on a custom car.
