Trying to get the baffles out of my Rush mufflers for repacking. Can't seem to get them to move hardly at all. Don't want to ruin the pipes. I have them off of the bike and tried driving a wooden rod from the intake side. Any tips?
Stand 1" diameter pipe up vertically. Be sure the pipe is 2 times the length of the muffler. Drop muffler over pipe, inlet end first until pipe hits the bar you had the wooden rod on. Lift both pipe and muffler a foot off the floor and simultaneously try to drive the pipe and muffler through the concrete. Repeat as necessary.
Assuming that you've removed the retaining screw on the bottom (had to ask ), you might try this. Get a long bolt or eyehook and attach a pair of vise grips to the shaft. With the head of the bolt behind the pull bar inside the baffle, tap on the visegrips with a hammer. Since you have the slipons off the bike you may have to find a way to secure it. Alternatively, you could put the shaft of the bolt in a vise and pull up on the slipon. Basically, a poor man's slide hammer.

Many years. I know people with 20,000 miles on Rush mufflers. The baffle matting should last thousands of miles but high output engines and ones running lean/hot can lead to a premature breakdown of the fiberglass.

Just curious. I have the Rush Crossover pipes on my bike and can't get bottom baffle out. I am going to try to use a hook and a slide hammer on it.There is no extraction bar in the baffles. Also the baffle I could get out had no wrap at all on it. Is this normal or should I wrap the baffles when I re install the new 2.0 baffles?
