Changing Tranny Fluid
Hey forum, just finished changing all the fluids on my 06 FatBoy. I just have the Tranny to do. Should the bike be standing upright or on its kickstand to do this change? I have seen videos on Youtube and some were done on the kick stand and some were done upright. I probably can do either way I guess. I am just curious on which way is the proper way to do this. The manual did not state it. Thanks...

I use AmsOil Severe Gear. You pull the dip stick out of the top then the drain plug. I do this on the kickstand at first, then upright the bike to make sure all the oil drains.
Be careful when reinstalling the drain plug. I use an inch pound dial indicator type torque wrench, and torqued to 16ft/lbs. this bolt is super easy to strip and I personally would not trust a click type wrench for this.

I use a straight (not ball end) Allen wrench to reinstall my drain plug. When I got my bike the plug had been cross threaded and dripped. I get a better feel with the Allen wrench. I'm running Shockproof for now, but will prolly go with something else at next change.

I would argue using a lift is your best bet.
Kick stand would not take out all oil probably, straight up would be a problem if you torque a bit and cause the bike to lean too much on the other side.
Just be safe and use a lift.

I have a Shotgun shock and it wasn't too bad on the first change but had to remove the mounting bolts that connect to the frame to get to the drain plug, not too bad. I use a lift as well to keep it level. I use the Redline w/ shockproof just use a new o-ring and don't over tighten it is the big issue doesn't require a ton of torque. I have always used redline very good and smooth. Usually takes out that loud clunking noise not all the way but most of it.
I striped the plug on my brand new 02 Heritage on the very first change. 100k miles and many changes later it's just hanging on by a thread with a new plug. the old one finally fell out on way to shop to buy a new one. New one is holding for now and not leaking. Shockproof works great. Hope to get it fixed before another long run.
