I've been told that haryley detach kit is the best, I haven't used anything else so I have to agree its pretty nice.
I had the nostalgia shield and currently have the Klockwerks billboard flare shield and don't like either very much due to the updraft created by both. If I didn't have a goatee I probably wouldn't notice but my goatee is a few inches long and it gets in my mouth and nose which blows.
But, when I had my 16's on I had to roll them back to get the klockwerks shield on. With the shield I was able to run 90 mph no problem on the freeway so if that's what you want to do you gotta get one, parachute effect sucks.
What I plan to do is chop the stock shield down to fit around my bars as is and only use it for real long runs.
I always take some good-natured ribbing from the dealer whenever I pull my bike in for service, but it's 500 miles round trip of back-road and highway driving from my home to my office in Vermont, and the windscreen (Harley de-tachable) makes the trip comfortable. That and the Mustang seat.
Take a look at the HD classic windshield. It is very easy to shim it forward so you can keep your bars forward. Also the quick disconnect kit, so when you are puttin around town.
There are threads on here about windshields and apes.
The wife has the HD detachable on her lo for when we have a lot of highway miles planned. Easy install and on/off in seconds. Very happy with it. Dealer actually ordered 2 windshields for us so we could swap out hardware and get the size shield she wanted at no charge.
