Springer Springs
Does your front end make noises when you bounce or exercise the suspension?
I have a 2000 FXSTS with 44K and other than checking the neck bearing and inspecting the rockers at front tire changes, I've never had to do anything to it. Still rides great. However, with the bike stationary and forcing the springs up/down, it sounds like a piece of farm machinery in and around the springs. Just want to make sure yours does it too.

Mine did while it was breaking in, but rolling at 22k the front end is usually quiet. From time to time I get a squeal or a rattle on hard bumps. Only had to adjust the rockers once so far and fall out once too. It's been relatively maintenance free.
Makes me want to check when I get off work lol. I'll hit you back up.

My Crossbones would squeek a bit in th efront end when the front end was shifting up and down. I'm pretty sure it's just the springs rubbing against the other components, I never worried about it and just took it as one of those things with a springer front end.
I have a 2005 Springer with about 68,000 on it and never noticed any noises while stationary or backing it out from under my carport when I am getting ready to ride. I don't know if it is common or uncommon, I just know mine hasnt't given me any issues so far.
My Crossbones' springs have always squeaked some but I only hear it when the bike is not running. Also, I really have to bounce it pretty hard and deliberately try to get the front suspension to articulate in order to hear it. I don't hear it at all if I am just moving the bike around in the garage or whatever. Going down the road it becomes a non-issue.
It's never bothered me that I can hear the noise when you jump on it. It a bunch of metal and springs put together in almost the same way that they have been doing it for years! I wouldn't expect it to me devoid of noise and honestly, to me it's part of the charm of a Springer.

Every once in a while, give the inner springs a shot of WD-40, using the straw, between the coils of the larger, outer springs. The springs will rub against each other and at the ends of the springs where they meet the bushings. That is the source of the spring squeak. They just need a dash of oil. Once done, the squeak will be gone.
Trust me, I KNOW springs....
That's why they call me:
