I am new to this forum, and after a lot of thought I finally decided to buy my dad a harley for his 50th birthday. Hes been talking about getting one for year, and wont be able to afford one for a couple more.
I have one currently on hold at Harley of Edmonton, its a beautiful big blue pearl 2013 Fatboy Softtail.
I know my dad wanted one, because Ive heard him talk about it over the last couple of months. My only concern is hes a bigger guy, he 6'5"-6'6" 240-260 pounds with a 35" waistline.
Im really looking for help here, if any one of you can tell me wether this bike will fit him comfortably or not it would be greatly appreciated. I take delivery of the bike on May 30th, and would love to know before then.
Im pretty scared he will love the way it looks, but wont be comfortable riding it.
One of the nice things about Harleys is they can be custom fit to the rider. With all the seats, handlebars, foot controls and suspension adjustments available they can make just about any bike fit any rider.
One really needs to pick what style bike they want and have it custom fit to their body.
Has your dad said he wants a softail or was the FatBoy just in the right price range?
He had mentioned a fatboy or an ultragluide. Its not really the price range that bothers me, if its 4000 more to get a bike that fits him better then so be it.
Im just worried if I got through with it, will he like the fit.
Does anyone on the forum ride a fatboy and is over 6'4"?

Those are two completely different bikes....you may want to hammer this down a bit more before deciding....

I agree. My wife has a Fatboy and I ride it a few times a year. I am 6'4 and 250+ and I feel somewhat large on it. Funny thing though, I have a Heritage that I ride around town that is same frame but feel fine on. But my most comfy bike is the street glide or Ultra.
Im hammering right now. Im trying to see if that bike will fit him or not.
You can customise either to make it fit....new seat and forward controls should be good to go......BUT what I am saying is that regardless of him fitting or not, they are completely different bikes......does he have a thing for Softails or Touring? Or a mixture of both styles of riding..? What is his experience.....? What kind of bikes has he had in the past?...this is what I mean by "hammering it down"........
Hes had a passion for them both, and in his younger years he had a softail. I think thats why he mentioned them, and now with the stages hes at now, I think hes leaning more the touring side of things.
So from what you guys are saying, a street glide may be a better fitting bike?
