Default 2006 FLSTI Cutting Out at 50-60mph

CAN ANYONE OUT THERE HELP ME WITH THIS?!
If anyone out there has experienced the following symptoms and has resolved the issue then I would be VERY grateful to hear from you. My 2006 Heritage Softail starts and runs fine up to about 50-60mph, at which point it will start to cut out completely - ie all electrics fail. If you accelerate gently up to about 50-60mph then it will cut out and cut back in again and can keep going if you slow down a bit. However if I accelerate hard into 60mph+ then it will just miss a few times and then cut out completely. When I coast to a halt and cycle the igniton it will restart no problem and then off we go again. You can ride at sub-50mph for mile after mile without any problem (so far, anyway).

This is total electrical system failure - the speedo drops back to zero and everthing shuts off; it usually cuts off and back in a again a few times before totally shutting off. If I accelerate slowly up to the speed at which it happens, then the bike can keep going, but will keep cuttin off and back in again every 20-30 seconds or so.

There seems to be some variability in the speed at which it occurs - it has been as low as 50mph and as 'high' as 60. This could maybe linked to something weird like the fuel level sensor? Anyway it is very frustrating as I have only had the bike a few weeks and it was there the first time I opened her out to 60mph+.

I know that it could be all sorts of general things like loose battery terminals, bad wires etc (which I have obviously checked) but it is such a specific and repeatable fault that I think it must be something someone has seen elsewhere. There doesn’t seem to be any fault codes logged. Note that I am in the UK and we just don’t have the network of knowledgeable independent workshops that you have in the US. Plus I want to fix it myself.

Thanks Chris

There have been problems with holes being rubbed in the fuel line inside the tank. Not electrical but just a thought.
