Default Parts Needed for Spring Mounted Seat

I dont quite get how to convert my Slim from the standard seat to a spring mounted.

I have to buy two kits? The base kit and the seat kit?

Can I buy the Harley base kit, then an aftermarket seat? I really want one of the LePera solo seats.

If I convert, how easy is it to convert back? 5 min or an hour?

Thanks for the help. (its my first Softail!)

make your own and put whatever custom seat you want. that's what I did. Way cheaper than a kit.

I think you can buy a LaPera mounting kit and seat together, which would probably be cheaper than HD products. I'd check their site or shoot them an email.

That said, I dug the HD set up and got my kit and seat off Ebay to save some bucks. Yes, you do need both. And if you want an HD passenger pillion later, you're going to have to do a simple mod to the ECM cover of the HD kit. All it takes is a good flat file and round file, though.

The first time you put on the HD kit and seat, it will take about 45 mins if you work carefully (slowly) like I do.

It comes with allen bolts to screw springs to seat, and seat to bracket, which I found kinda a pain in the ****. Hard to get an allen wrench in the little space and make decent turns on the bolt. So I went to my local hardware store recently and got some traditional stainless steel bolts and copper washers to replace the allen bolts.

Looks better that way, and should I need to get to the battery compartment under the seat, it's a lot easier now. If anyone wants to try to steal the seat, you still have to turn the traditional bolts, and there's still the front bracket to deter them from doing so.
