Oh man, that's a terrible, terrible thing. Thinking of his family. And, yes, there were a lot of bikes out today in my neck of the woods. Did 130 miles or so with my buddy and I sit here now with my beautiful wife and home-cooked meal and I realize how lucky we all are to get home. Heads up out there. It's getting crazier every year.
Ive almost hit a few guys in my truck by me because they hug the center line and lean into the opposite lane. They are too stupid to realize that they are placing their head in the line of fire. Not saying that is what happened here, but it happens more than I like.
My heart breaks every time I see a post like this, and don't think this doesn't cross my mind every time I jump on my FXDWG. We can hope the texting Soccer Mom that killed him will spend some time as a guest of the State, but that won't happen.....
Sad day for the biker's family for sure. Thoughts to them. I hope they sue the goofball driver.
The driver of the truck will probably get community service and a ticket for crossing the line. He SHOULD get mega years for killing someone, just as if he had shot them.
You might be jumping to conclusions bro. Either way... it sucks mightily to see a fellow rider killed. No matter what the circumstances.

You know, I don't really know for sure what happened, but I'd bet real money that a cell phone was involved...
to the original OP, could you follow up on this and let us know who was at fault and if a cell phone was involved? how old was the rider and how much experience did he have? not trying to place blame or start an argument--just wonder what happened. certainly a sad day for all involved.

I will. I'm sure this will be in the local paper this week.
Had to shoulder my softail cuz a pizza delivery guy in a mini van took my lane. I enduroed my heritage & Chased him down. He got a good taste of fed up biker. We could have died that day. I always treat every ride like it could be my last. This is my second close call this year, one more & I'm getting a different scoot. Ride safe to all.
"When riding alone or in the lead of a group, as you approach the crest of a hill, move away from the center line. By the time oncoming traffic is visible it can be too late to move should you find someone coming at you in your lane if you have not already bought some air-space. (Actually, this one IS taught in the MSF class - I include it for emphasis.)"
Of course I have no idea what happened here. But I am always surprised how close some bikers ride to opposing traffic. I don't trust anybody enough to stay near opposing traffic.
