valvoline 20w50
ok here's another oil type question, as long as I change my oil every 3k on my softtail can I use a 20w50 dino auto oil. I've tried reading all the treads, to much confusion. I know vw's and corvairs were air cooled like my heritage and they ran engine oil. so what the diff between them and me.

VWs and Corvairs had fans. Automotive oils do not for the most part have the JASO spec for high heat/stress environments. If you don't want to use a motorcycle oil, use a diesel oil as they have the proper spec.

I've run different brands of automotive oil for the past 40 years with no problems.some of my older bikes have gone over 100,000 miles and the owners have had no oil related problems.but you can argue this for ever and not get a clear cut answer.
