Default tire gauge

Hate asking what feels like a dumb question, but just tried to check tire air pressure in 1999 fatboy and my standard tire gauge didn't fit. Is their a special gauge, and if so, is there a special attachment for adding air?

I had a similar situation and discovered that there were little rubber o-rings around the valve stems. I don't know their purpose so I just removed them. I haven't notice a loss of air.
