When should battery indicator light function
2012 FLSTF.
If the stator or voltage regulator are not functioning properly should the battery indicator light on the speedo be lit?
For example if the battery isn't being charged when the engine is running, should the battery indicator light be lit?

What was this question really that stupid that nobody wants to answer.
I understand that the batt. light should be lit if there is a problem with the battery or charging system.
But after doing a search I see several posts about battery or charging problems but I don't see any indicating a battery light being on in conjunction with these issues.
So this is why I am asking the original question.

xwhyz is correct, it will only turn on if the charging system can't keep up with demand. as long as the actual charging system is ok, the batt light won't turn on if the batt itself is weak, its not designed to.
some new cars have batt sensors that will monitor batt state, but i imagine its years off in the bike world, which is a good thing in my opinion.
to test the batt light operation, hold in the trip/reset button and turn ign on. all the dash/console lights and gauges should light or make a full sweep of their range accordingly.
