I'm a person that can never stop wrenching on my bike and I'm always experimenting and modifying. Living in the Philippines, parts are difficult to come by, but Machine Shops are abundant and inexpensive. The bike is an injected 02 Fatboy, Stage 1, Vance and Hines True Duals. BCT Baffles, and Tuned with a Fuel Pack. I decided I wanted the look of a longer exhaust but didn't want to drop the coin for Samson pipes plus shipping and customs duties, so I experimented and fabricated 8 inch exhaust extension.
Most material in this country is metric sized and I couldn't find exhaust pipe of the correct diameter. I started with raw steel tubing roughly 5/16th inch thick. The outside diameter was machined down to match the OD of the Vance and Hines. The interior of the tubing was then machined to reduce weight. After fitting, drilling, and tapping, the extensions were sent out and chromed. Total cost, Material, Machine Shop and Chrome = $80.00 bucks.
Road tested the bike yesterday. The extensions lowered the exhaust tone (Deeper Sound) but also caused a reduction in overall decibels (Loudness). Surprisingly, I experienced a slight performance gain which I can only surmise is due to an increase in backpressure.
My experimentation is not finished yet. I'll test the exhaust w/out baffles and then by reposition the baffles further back towards the end of the exhaust.
