Riser question
I want to install risers on my 05 Heritage... no ape hangers, just a 4 1/2" rise and 1 or 2" set back... J&P Cycles has some listed that are made of "die cast" but I've heard that steel is far better and safer.. My question is: why? Are "die cast" risers unsafe because they are weaker than steel? Has anyone had any issue with them failing for any reason? The die cast are a lot less expensive, but if they're not safe, I'll try to find some made of steel.
TIA

Just my opinion but I wouldn't buy die cast risers for my bike. You can have porosity inside the casting and not be aware of it. I got the risers from HD money well spent. There are probably others available and I am not preaching HD anything. Buy Steel/chromed and you will be better off.
Thanks... that's what I needed to know... Now, does HD or anyone else make 4 1/2" chromed steel risers that have the single cap like the original? I can't seem to find anything except the risers with individual caps.
I would not use cast risers, if they broke your down. I had these in 4" on my Fatboy. They come in lengths up to 9" and are made of billet aluminum

I've ridded at least 3 bikes with Aluminum risers for years and never worried about them being aluminum. I've been riding 45 years now and have never heard once of a fellow rider's issues with aluminum risers, or even read about it. The forces that would be needed to break your risers would likely mean you're dead, or at least in a state where a broken riser would be the least of your worries. Buy steel if it gives you peace of mind though.
