Default Baffle help

I recently bought a pair of used V&H longshots for my 02 heritage and they are loud! I pulled the baffles and found the previous owner cut the baffles in half. What can I do with the baffles I have to quiet them down? Could I weld a piece of tubing with holes to the baffle? Wrap them like the quiet baffles with fiberglass? Anyone ever do something like this or should I chuck them and get a new set?

I'm running full length stock baffles in my Longshots, I imagine it is somewhat more quiet than what you have, but not much. V&H does not list a quiet baffle for them. Not sure if baffles for Big Shots will work. The ideas you put forth are all viable. Another option is to try DKCustoms Thunder Torque inserts, a type of "lollypop" baffle. They are quiet at cruise and loud when you're on the throttle.

A new set will give you the correct back pressure while quieting it down.

Most mufflers have a welded short piece of pipe, slightly larger in circumference than the head pipe, which goes over the head pipe where they are clamped together. Also, most baffles are slightly flared at the end where it mates with the inside of the pipe in the muffler, to give it a somewhat of a seal. Just mentioning that because if you do end up welding a piece to the baffle, it needs to be the right length and have the proper flaring. If you go go that route, you can weld a plug between the two pieces of baffle, which divides it into two chambers, with an equal numbers of hole on both chambers. This makes it even quieter. This is more work, so probably best to get a used set of baffles.
