Default Breakout Cam Replacement

Just been told that my pipes are due to arrive mid September for my Breakout and so now I'm seriously looking into replacing the cam at the same time.

Dealer will be installing the V&H Big Radius 2 into 2 Black pipes + SE Heavy Breather Performance Air Cleaner kit + Race Tune.

Been looking around and from what I can gather the SE-255 CAM seems to be a good fit but I then spoke to the dealer and they recommend the SE-259E cam kit.

Want to keep it all HD parts for warranty.

Anyone out changed there cam's on the Breakout and if so, what did you go with?

Thanks

I can't say much since i don't have my Breakout yet, but i did se a video on youtube of a guy who has a stage 2 on his B.O. He went with 255's and claims he has crazy amount of torque now. I don't think you could go wrong with either or, but it all depends on what your personal goals are for the bike. Are you trying to hit a certain number for horsepower or torque?

The 259E has a good power curve between 2500 - 5000 and the 255 starts off with a high at 2500 and then drops off from about 4000.

I like the idea of having good low down torque but also want a good even power spread between 2500 and 5500.

If it has to be an H-D cam, go with a 204.

Post this question in the "engine, fuel, intake, exhaust" of the general HD tech forum. You'll get some technical answers.

All three (204 - 255 - 259E) are SE parts, so no worries there. I like the 204 in my 88ci with 2:1 exhaust, but the 259E with your larger displacement is hard to argue with.

I'm considering the 259e. Since my BO isn't going to be *that* much of a highway runner, I want all the bottom and mid range I can get. I'm also considering sending the heads to HD over the winter and have them re-welded and ported. (going with HD for all of this I can keep my 2 year warranty intact - otherwise, I'd look at different avenues)

What cams U put in is not what U see in the Peak #'sss .. don't mean chit..

What counts is that It has the TQ and HP where U need/want it..

most HD riders need the TQ in the 2k to 4K Rpms... not 3K-5K area..

There are many cams that will be better than the SE255's or the higher Reving 259's.

Need to know if Ur a solo rider of 2 uper...

Also where do U ride most of the time, What rpm's????

Found the sheet on the Sons 07 Deuce with the 204's for U.. Remember this is for a 96''er and I am sure the cam in a 103 will be even better.

This sheet show the base stg1 run and then with the cams added. also note that the sheet has different numbers on each side for the same line. that's why the line cross at a lower # than 5200. (I hate that when they print a sheet that way)

Still U'll be able to see what the 204's will do. This bike had V&H's 2-2 BR's which netted him a better line across the sheet than his 09 NT did with BSL's and the same mods to the motor.

Hopes this help U more.
