Agree 100%!! Coming from someone who has had both, the apes are a lot more comfortable. They help me stretch out my back as opposed to being kind off hunched over with the beach bars. And height wise don't worry. I'm about 5'7 rocking Carlini flying apes and the bare bones seat on my deluxe. U good bro!!

I have an 01 Fatboy custom with beach bars. Its my first Harley, so I cannot compare it to others. I will say that the beach bars are very comfy for me as a first time rider. I love the upright position. I love the feeling and easy handling in the curves. First day out riding my new Hog and I was scraping my platforms in the turns. Iam 5' 8", and have short legs. Keep in mind that you may hate what I find comfortable. None of what we say matters anyways. Everybody is built differently. Even two people of the same height may have drastically different opinions on what is comfortable to them. Go to the dealership and sit on multiple bikes with apes and beach bars and figure out which ones are going to be most comfortable for you. Ask if the salesman will let you test drive one of each. But don't base your decision on our opinions.

Also, my back, shoulders and tailbone no longer hurts me and although I got my seats reworked it is mostly due to how I now sit with the apes on my bike.
I had the exact same experience when I put them on my Train about a month ago. After a few short rides I fell in love with them. I too went with the 1.5 14" Gangsters and couldn't be happier. I'm 5'9"/180lbs. The bars sit just above my shoulders. There are a few pics of a buddy of mine sitting on it if you want to take a minute and search through my threads. Totally changes the look of the bike as well. Worth every penny; I say go for it.

Thanks everyone for your input, think I am gonna head down to the stealership see if they got any bikes with apes and sit on them. Leaning more towards the apes I need the room to cut through la traffic

That's the downside to beach bars - forget cutting through traffic!
