Default 2007 compensator part number question

I did a search !!

I have searched and read many pages and the more I read the more confused to get.
I am simply tired of my clunk at startup that is worsening by the day. I found a thread where some are replacing their 2007-9 compensator with the screaming eagle 40274-08A. I went to my dealer and he said that the part number is no longer available and has been replaced by part number 4220064(compensator) and I also would need 30041-08 (rotor assy)
and 11100088(some kind of adhesive kit)
anyone know anything about this? The total on this before tax is around 450 dollars !
I need a different compensator and not sure what to buy.
The latter part numbers were not in stock at my dealer and they have no idea when they can get them (WTF?)
any help appreciated..
Larry

What I've read suggests that the new compensator is an excellent upgrade. It addresses shortcomings, still found in the formerly upgraded screaming eagle compensator...

Here's what is listed in the Screamin Eagle catalog;

E. SCREAMIN’ EAGLEŽ BIG TWIN COMPENSATOR 2 This premium compensator has been engineered with heavier springs and increased travel to support the high torque output associated with high compression race and large displace- ment engines. Designed to outperform the Original Equipment compensator, this unit helps protect the engine and driveline components during harsh drag race launches. Compensator features improved oil passages, oil deflectors and a needle bearing thrust washer that improves the overall operation of these components.

42200064 $299.95 Fits ’06-’13 DynaŽ , ’07-’13 SoftailŽ (except FXCW, FXCWC, FXSTSSE3, FXSB and FXSBSE), and ’07-’13 Touring and Trike models. Original Equipment on ’14 Dyna, Softail and Touring models. Requires separate purchase of Installation Adhesive Kit P/N 11100088. ’06-’11 Dyna, ’07-’11 Softail and ’07-’10 Touring and Trike requires separate purchase of Rotor Assembly P/N 30041-08. Installation on ’06 Dyna models requires separate purchase of ’07-style stator.

As you can see, it does require the purchase of the installation adhesive kit and, if you have an '07-'11 softail, you will need to purchase a new rotor also.

Personally, I would go with the new compensator, even if I could get one of the "older" screamin eagle compensators.

For what it's worth, I'm thinking of upgrading to this new compensator on my '12 touring bike, but I won't need to get the rotor......

Good luck with your decision.....

Thanks for the replies!!
KumaRide, excellent link, thank you!
hattitude, I am inclined to agree with you but I think I might try and wait to see how the new version holds up. I'm a bit concerned about the needle bearing. I guess time will tell. I think I'm going to try and stretch my replacement out a little longer.
It's inasne that they keep changing this part. I am thinking there was initially a part number 40274-08 and then an 08A and now a completely different number. It baffles me why the newer year bikes are having trouble ..thanks guys!!!

Id wait to see how the needle bearing hold up as well. I did my comp on saterday. I figure in a year or two when this one goes bad all the bugs will be worked out and a few aftermarket guys will step up to the plate as well.
