Also thinking of losing the speedo. Is there a low fuel light on the speedo on the Breakout?
To be honest, I am not sure. There is miles till empty though, and it seems pretty accurate. Keep in mind, if you lose the speedo, you also lose the dummy lights in the riser. The can bus system means some components rely on others, and the speedo is one of them.
How low do you have to get it before the light comes on? I'm super nervous about running out of gas, so I top it off every chance I get.
It comes on when you have 25-30 miles left in the tank.... now that number will go down depending on how you ride.
I have gone as low as 4 miles left on fuel with no issues.
Once the light comes on, it defaults the display to show miles left with fuel remaining in the tank so you now ar a glance how far you can go ( so to speak)
I went with Freedom Performance Independence Shorty pipes. I'm not into the radius look and wanted V&H Bigshots but there aren't any for the Breakout (yet). As it turns out, I'm probably even happier with them anyway, as they have a great sound and I love the chrome tips.

Why?
I just recently got back into riding after a 25+ year absence. I thought my 1999 Heritage had a 5 gallon tank, but its a 4 gallon. I thought I had a 200+ mile cushion, turns out it's more like 160 miles.
I ran out of gas taking an exit last week (keep I mind, I'm basically an amateur). I reached down, flipped it to reserve, and went on to the gas station.
It's pretty easy, no reason to be nervous about it.

Newer bikes don't have reserve though, at least not the Breakouts.......that's why. When you get super low on the new bikes it says low range. My red light came on and I got about 10-12 miles on it before the Low Range light came across the LCD screen, then I knew I had maybe 1-2 miles.
