i use 6th gear for cruising between towns when traffic is moving. i usually drive it at 60-62 mph in 6th. i don't see a point when your humming a long with no large hills to crank almost 3k in 5th doing 60. like everyone else has said it's on preference.
since when have you folks listened to harley dealership joes tell you what is right and what is wrong. Most of those folks dont know jack **** about what is going on in the inside of your bike. I have had my slim in 6th gear going 45 and the bike is not lugging unless you are going up hill or you are flogging the bitch. Try things out for your self and learn your bike, what it likes and what it does not.
If I go by speed alone, I usually shift to the gear, I'm going at that speed...2nd @ 20mph, 3rd @ 30mph, etc. But, I normally shift by rpm and usually at 2500 and keep it above 2000.
What the F does any amount of driving sticks have anything to do with a HD 6 speed?
If it does mean anything then my 2 million + miles with no accidents operating everything from squad cars, tandem axle snow plows, 30 or forty stick shift cars from a Pinto to Corvettes and Viper trumps that.
