not smooth anymore
Hi all,
New to this forum & really like it.
I got an 05 Springer Classic for Christmas. (Does 'she' rock or what?!) It had 9k on it & rode so smooth & sweet.
At 10500, I took it to a dealer the other day for a 10k service. They were very professional & as far as I can tell, did everything listed just fine. But...
It's not smooth anymore. It sounds & feels different. Especially from 70-86 mph. I've put 300 miles on it & on the hiway, I feel like I want to drop back to 55 to enjoy the ride.
The headlight bounces now but when I put my hand on any part of the springer front end, it doesn't seem to be "pogo-ing" or have any extra vibration.
There is a lot more valvetrain clatter & the engine doesn't sound the same, more like a vw with piston slap.
It came back from service with the drive belt a lot looser.
I jacked it up last night & spun the front wheel, the tire/rim is round & straight.
Any wisdom for me? I'll try & get over to the dealer this weekend too.

When you had the service done did they use conventional oil or synthetic? My bike runs so much smoother, more quiet and cooler with synthetic oil. Make sure all your spokes are tight, your tires are balanced and your tires are at the proper inflation. Tires under or over inflated will cause ride issues. Make sure they did tighten all spokes on your rims...that is a step of the 5k and 10k maintenance and at my 5k maintenance a bunch of my spokes were loose. Now I check them every couple hundred miles and I check my tire pressure before riding every day.
