Two bikes in the garage are a 2014 Breakout and 2010 CVO Fatbob. Dyna is definitely more fun in the twisties, but I prefer the feel of the breakout. Even though it feels like you are wrestling a elephant in slow speed turns, I prefer the sensation of sitting in the bike as opposed to sitting on the bike. Both bikes are a blast to drive, but I find myself putting more miles on the breakout this year.

I am setting up my 2015 Breakout for purchase next week. The dealer is suggesting Stage ll with SE255 cams. I paln to do a lot of in town riding
and want low to mid range power, burn outs, just a hot street bike.
Are the 255's a good choice? My highway riding would only be across town.

Thanks Ahead.

I'd suggest SE 204 cams, bolt-in, TQ on a wider range, awesome sound...pretty satisfied of my choice so far...
SE 255 could be good on heavier models...

yeh i have heard a lot of good feedback on that one. barring any better alternatives I may have to go that route. just pains me to shell out that kind of $$ for shocks that are (AFIK) only preload adjustable.

Congrats- Plan on swapping your drive pulleys if you want a hot town bike. 30T front belt pulley from a 2011 Tri-Glide and 68T rear wheel pulley from a sportster. No matter what cam you throw in it, it will feel slow off the line because the stock factory belt pulley ratio is TALL for EPA and noise regulations. The older HD's pre-2007 had a shorter ratio and that's pretty much what this pulley swap does is get you back to the good 'ol days. You'll use the same belt. Bigger bang for buck than doing a cam upgrade, but if you do the cam upgrade then the gearing change will give you a lot more out of the cam.

The 255 cam is an ok choice if that is all you are doing. if you are doing headwork and higher compression then there are much better cam choices. the 255 is designed to work with a completely stock, lower compression motor, with typical upgrade of intake and pipes.

Getting a good aftermarket tuner like the Powervision is a good idea as well. I ride my bike pretty much like you intend to and all of my upgrades have been designed along those lines.

If you change the tires to Pirelli Night Dragons and upgrade the front fork springs / dampers, the elephant will be gone. completely. not even exaggerating one bit. something for thought-

My plan for next winter. I couldn't bring myself to lose any riding time this summer. I am going to be under the sea for 2.5 months as it is.

Great post, thanks! I may need to slow down. Do the pipes, air cleaner and tune and ride it stock otherwise for a while. Do more reading of you guys and come back to the internals later. The pulleys were a whole new idea and I believe I will need more planning here.

Love to see a list of what you have done.

A family member mentioned a cam change right off might not do much. And the power curves of the SE 204's are looking a little better than the SE 255's after some study also.

Thanks to all for the teaching.
