Default Popping on deceleration

When I bought my Heritage 2 weeks ago, I had the dealer put on V&H slip on's. The bike really pos a bunch on deceleration. In my experience, this is caused by loose manifold bolts. Any other reasons I should look at?

Normal. You don't hear these "popping" as much with stock mufflers because it does it's job.

With my mufflers, it "gargles" on decel. Sounds kind of cool.

The popping is actually pockets of Unburned fuel "exploding" in the exhaust. Every 4 stroke gas engine on earth does this to a certain extent.

Certain pipes and mufflers do it more than others.

put on a fuel management system like the Fuelpak or Micro Tuner.
That should greatly reduce or eliminate the decel pop.

Look on e-bay for a used one.

I just bought my heritage also. V&H slip on"s from the dealer only put 250 miles on her so far and yes, it pops a lot on decel. I kind of expected it. I'm waiting to get to 1000 miles after the break in, then get a better air cleaner and have it tuned!!! If you are not going to do a stage 1 . Then take it to the dealer and have them remap it for you. I don't know what they will charge for this.. OR you can get a fuelpak like Bluraven said and be done with it. But let us know...Good luck with you new bike .swifty

Mine gargles also as Colo said, it does sound good to me. I would say you need to get fuel pak as mentioned, have heard from others the same thing and the fuel pak helps they say. I plan on adding a stage 1 A/C and will have it put on a dyno probably especially since pipes were changed.

As others have said, decel popping is, to some degree, normal. There is no harm to your engine. An ECM remap by the dealer (which will cost in the vicinity of $150 - $200) might help but not as much as a tuner or other enrichment device. The dealer must abide by EPA standards so their remap will still leave the bike running lean which is a factor in the popping.

To reduce the decel popping you require something to enrich the AFR (Air-Fuel Ratio). A tuner is the ideal device. Bluraven gave you examples. There is a less expensive alternative; an FL-Xied or FL-Vied.

Congrats on your new Heritage. Enjoy it. Ride safe.

I'm thinking it will get better with more mile. I only have a little over 400 & 240 of that was today!
BTW, my local bike mechanic(who USED to be an HD mechanic til he started his own shop) says they are not really broken in until 2500 miles. He does not recommend changing to synthetic oil until the 500 mile oil change.

Save your money and don't have it remapped or dyno'd for a stage 1. My 09 Heritage has V&H staggards and SE AC and was "stage 1 mapped" by the dealer and it still had significant decel pop.

I didn't mind the decel pop so much, but I wanted to cool it down a bit and get a little better low end response and many recommended a fuel tuner.

I got a Fuelpak off e-bay for around $130 and my oil temp dropped around 15 degrees, my mpg when up to around 38 city 42 hwy, I have noticiable better low end response and the decel pop is all but gone.

Save the remapping and dyno dollars to when you decide to change the cams and go to a stage 2 or 3.

BTW if you going to buy new, I'd go with the Fuel Moto Micro Tuner.
From what I've read it's the best and Fuel Moto has great Customer service.

Just my opinion.
