Here is my question. I can buy used HD brand hard bags the old style made of fiber glass or the new style made from ABS plastic. Is there a advantage of one over the other. Also on ebay there appears to be off brand ABS bags for quite a bit less but I am worried it will be reflected in the quality. I have found the newer ABS plastic bags are normally a couple hundred bucks higher on ebay. Also gonna get the cycle vision kit, any suggestions on a kit that would possibly be better?
The big thing advertised with fiberglass bags is that they are repairable and USUALLY weigh less. To be honest if an accident happens and you need to repair a bag, you are probably going to just buy a new one.
From what I have heard, the ebay cvo style abs bags are great bags and hard it beat price wise. If I were you I would see if the guy selling the cycle visions stretched bags in the classifieds section still has them and pick those up for a steal of a price.
Get the cyclevisions mount kit, you will be happy you did.
check out the thread "hard bad setup" from badbagger09 listed in the softtail parts section of this site. He has OEM hard bags already stretched and the cycle visions baggertail kit for sale
I have the hard bag conversion the abs bags are much lighter the the fiber glass that's why they went that way ..I tried the sumax bracket and they suck so I sold them and purchased the cycle visions kit its much better and has the crossover bracket to stop the bags from flapping in the breeze..
